When I looked at the various projects and pictures Mr. Brown put up, I felt like I could relate to many of them. For the ones that I couldn’t relate to, I thought they were really interesting. There’s one picture or project or whatever it is about a notebook with slanted lines instead of straight lines. I thought this was pretty cool because like he said, many people do sorta (not sure if I can use words like sorta, but I’m gonna use it anyway) twist their notebook when writing in tight spaces, and this was actually a cool idea. I also saw one about getting your cat to draw a picture? The question mark is there because that’s exactly how my reaction was when I read the heading, I didn’t get why a person could even think about this, but it was funny. The cat would basically have its food dish on a set of wheels, with a pen sticking under the bowl, and eat in an area over a piece of paper. While the cat would move the dish around and eat, the pen would make a drawing. I still don’t get why a person would want a drawing (scribbles) from a cat, quite frankly, I’m flabbergasted and I don’t use that word a lot (yes I do). Well after seeing the things Mr. Brown had up on his site, I want to try and get this slanted lined notebook. I feel like it can help me in the weirdest of times. :)
Matt Brown’s Fictitious Design was so Cool with a capital C. Matt Brown had some really interesting ideas, photo, designs. Everything that I saw was totally amazing. Ex The smoke decting birthday radio. <- That was so cool. This is how is works the radio is activated by smoke. You place it behind the birthday cake and once the person blows the candles out a random song will play. That’s something I would purchase. My reaction too all of Mr. Brown ideas had me surprised. Who would come up with such interesting and well thought ideas? What’s fun is that Mr. Brown wrote “A lot of the projects on this site should be viewed as design fiction” and then he wrote “That can't be said about everything on this site though”. So Mr. Brown is kind of tricking us in believing that some of his ideas are fiction and some aren’t. Confused the goose much? Anyway the best was to put this to test is to use your imagination come up with a great, well thought idea and make people think that it’s real. Then confuse them into thinking it’s not really. :S
When examining Mr. Brown`s projects and pictures I felt like I was stepping in an imaginative area, where simple ideas can be transformed into such a creative and interesting piece of art. The designs in the project were very straightforward and artistic but when you take your time and actually use your imagination, it becomes a whole different design. Most of the designs, especially “the ludemann spud” and the “forkplate” reminded me of pranks that can be used to fool someone. These designs really made me wonder how art can be so simple and fun at the same time. I really liked the “Flavor spoon” because in my household my mother does not really add a lot of spices and flavours in her food and this spoon can really add a new flavour in my life. Overall, the designs were awesome and very unique. I always considered art as being perfect and beauty; however, this project really opened my eyes to the true meaning of art which is uniqueness. It is fascinating how another person`s design can inspire you to make something of your own. Therefore, I would like to research more about this specific kind of deign and I would also want to make one of my own personal deign.
When I was browsing through the differennt artists provided for us and the one that really caught my eye and held it there was Matt Brown and his art work. I checked through all of this guy’s works and I found them very interesting and creative. Hell, I will even say they’re new and original. It’s truly awesome to say the least. The art projects that I really liked were “drawings by cats,” where a pen is attached to a food bowl with wheels and is pushed around by the cat when it eats, creating a drawing on the paper underneath the bowl, and “pants for parents” which was Matt Brown’s design for these pants with pockets on the bottom around the ancles for the kids to store things in them or the parents can put candy in them so that the kids don’t have to bother the parents for sweets. But the one that was truly unique in my opinion was the “bedside companions” in which the artist created 2-D bedside items like a lamp, a radio, a book, etc. that can be stuck on the wall near the bed.
This made me feel like I was slowly stepping into a new world where ordinary everyday things can be transformed and appropriated into something new, with everyone of these projects I viewed as being a step. I would really like for the artist to keep coming up with more of these awsome ideas.
The idea is to make pants that the parents wear and the kids can use. A pocket for the child to put things in, a tugging handle maybe. More updates to come…
*Ignore my first post please:)*
