The one-minute writing shows us that even though we feel that we do not have enough time to journal about our day or our feelings, writing for just 60 seconds helps. I was surprised after I actually did today’s one-minute writing exercise and found that I might actually want to journal. After all, why do we find it so painstaking, so burdensome, to just pick up a pen and a random piece of paper and start writing? Nowadays it can even be on the computer. Today’s writing exercise was talking about a time where either your heart was broken or it was healed. It perfectly fit the theme of today since; after all, it is Valentine’s Day. Just writing about such a moment made me want to write more, it felt good. I want to see if I can keep up writing for just a minute every day.
What is the strangest gift you’ve ever received? That was today’s question. The one-minute writing helps when you want to write something, but can’t because writers block. It helps thoguhts move forward in your mind. It made me realize that writing is not all that bad, and that I should start writing daily. Maybe not daily, but as much as I can. I think I should start a blog? Hmm.. Maybe.
The one-minute writing project shows me how simple it is to take one minute of the 1,440 minutes I have everyday to write. It would be a complete waste of time if I let all those minutes go by without writing something down. It’s as if I let all those moments in the day that I learn something new or am inspired by something just slip away never recorded or remembered when I could just pick up a pen and start writing. If no one ever wrote anything down, we would never have knowledge about events in the past that have made us who we are today nor would we have those fictional stories that allow us to escape to a different world filled with fantasy, mystery or even love. Why is that in today’s world, where we have so many tools to express ourselves through writing, we don’t give ourselves the time to simply write about anything our imagination lets us? With this thought in mind, I want to try and take a few minutes everyday to write about something I’m feeling or about something completely random.
Personally, I feel that having a blog or a journal will truly help you get through your daily lives. I have gone through many blog sites — livejournal, blogspot and now I’m spending a majority of my free time updating my tumblr. So when I clicked the link and realized that it was someones blogspot page, I couldn’t be more intrigued by the assignment. Like I always do, I decided to click on the comments and see what people had to say to these “daily promts”. With the topic being about love and broken hearts, I couldn’t help but read every single one of those 16 comments. Though all made me physically smile, this response made my heart smile.

When I first met Jae, I turned him down because I thought I was in love with another boy. That boy broke my heart, had his friends listen in on our phone conversations, and made a mockery of what I thought was my first experience with love. Jae came over and held me while I soaked his shirt with tears over the loss of someone else. He told me later he knew he was in love with me that night. I was 16. Nine years (and even more heart breaks and healing) later, I married Jae.
I wish that more people would take the time out of their daily routines, and just express and share something with others, or even just express in words what it is they’re feeling inside for themselves. It doesn’t have to be long and this page proves it, that if you’re an excessive blogger like myself, or someone who doesn’t have all the time in the world to write on a webpage, 60 seconds is good enough. I believe that blogging, or to put it to a simpler term – writing can really heal your soul. Whether it is to express heartaches, vent or just share a funny story with those around you.
The one minute writer is an extremely interesting project. Many people think that they don’t have enough time to write or use their busy schedule as an excuse for their lack of writing. However, this project shows that with one minute of your life, you can write. Whether it be your thoughts, ideas, something you’ve noticed, anything. You always have time to pick up a pen or pencil and bless an empty sheet of paper with a piece of your mind. I think that everyone should take at least sixty seconds out of their life to release their thoughts upon a sheet of paper. Afterall, you never know what could come out of it. The greatest things in life are made unintentionally. This project has inspired me to start writing in a journal everyday. Who knows, maybe writing could
even be used as a release for stress. Everyone should have a journal.
